Beth Ballard
“To be a great Ferguson associate, you need to have an open mind and be willing to learn. We have a wealth of knowledge in our branch with over 200 years of work experience. Absorb that and don’t be afraid to ask questions!”
When Beth started at Ferguson she used a typewriter. Not only has technology changed significantly since that day in 1995, so has Beth’s role — from receptionist to sales, to supervisor, and ultimately to branch manager, a role she’s held since 2019. In fact, the company itself has changed since then as well. Beth was first hired by a company that was acquired by Ferguson in 2011, and she’s extremely proud to have been a part of the growth trajectory for the business since the early days.
Despite her official title, Beth says she tells people she’s the head of housekeeping because she does a little bit of everything and is skilled at cleaning up everyone’s “stuff.” She credits her years of back-office experience as well as her background in business and accounting with giving her those valuable fundamental “housekeeping” skills. In fact, she strives to share her knowledge with others to help them strengthen their own work ethic and understand why things are done in certain ways. She says she loves helping younger associates learn and grow — which she says also helps the business continue to grow.
Collaboration is at the heart of what Beth does every day. First, she works primarily with one customer, and values the strong relationship they’ve developed through the years, grounded in the trust that Ferguson is and has always been there to do whatever it takes to help them succeed. Second, she believes in the power that comes from asking questions and learning from others. “We all have our niches, and we all help each other when we have questions,” she says. “Every day you’re here, you’ll learn something new.”
I like to have a good time. I like to make people smile and laugh. So I would say the funniest.
Sunshine. It makes you feel good.
I'm trying to plan a trip to Europe! I want to do the whole gamut: France, Italy, Germany...all of it.
Fresh tuna, right off the boat! Or any seafood really...crawfish, shrimp.
On Christmas Eve, a group of my girlfriends met at a friend's house. She was making seafood stock for her Christmas Day gumbo. It was the end of the night and we picked all the seafood out of the stock. The next morning we started looking for the stock and couldn't find it! Then...we realized what I had done...I had absent-mindedly poured the stock down the drain the night before! We had to start over. I couldn't believe it.
Flip flops! You can dress them up, they can be casual, or they can be worn under a ball gown. That's exactly what I did last weekend!
I'm gonna say gardening. I've seen so much joy in that. Some of my friends were laid off during COVID and picked it up, they just love it so much.
